The first time I was introduced to this idea was thru an Instagram post by @townfridge. Shortly after I started noticing community refrigerators as I drove around the Bay (@townfridge), Southern California (Leimert Park Fridge), and in Honolulu.
As I started researching community fridges, I stumbled across Freedge (Freedge.org).
"Freedge is a sharing mechanism aiming to reduce food insecurity and food waste, building a stronger community. We promote equal access to healthy food through the installation of community fridges (public refrigerators) that are used to share food and ideas at the neighborhood level."
Freedge not only provides a map of global community fridge networks, they also provide guidance on how to setup your own community fridge.
This is just another example of how LOVE and community can solve most, if not all, of the problems faced by our communities.
